2016 O-Zone All Stars: State Tournament Runners-Up

If you check the league's Instagram account, you'll find picture after picture of one of our O-Zone All Stars holding a ball after hitting a home run.  It happened a lot during their 33-4 run to and nearly through the State Tournament.  We could not be more proud of the accomplishments of these 12 young men (and their 3 old coaches).  They left it all on the field every game.  They set an example for the players in our younger leagues on how the game should be played.

2016 Farm League All Stars: Top 4 in the State

2016 Farm League All Stars
Our 2016 Farm League All Stars made a run at the state championship.  There's no doubt that the best four teams were the final four remaining.  Unfortunately, both Nationals were on the outside looking in (Us and Sumter).  Coach Steven Wint's Farm League All Stars played great baseball throughout the summer.  There were several tight games and fantastic finishes.  Anyone who saw Wells Bannister's walkoff hit in Game 1 of the District Championship Series won't soon forget it.

Wells Bannister
Our Farm League All Stars won the Greenwood Invitational, their Sub-District, finished runners-up in the District and earned a top 4 finish in the State Tournament.  We couldn't be more proud of these boys or more optimistic about the future of Hartsville National Baseball!

2016 Minor League All Stars

Our 2016 Minor League All Stars claimed their sub-district championship and finished third in the district.  Along the way, they compiled a 14-2 record, as well as spending one rainy evening watching the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.  From that night on, the team's rallying cry was "Turtle Power."  Coach Lawrence Hope's crew played some great baseball and made a lifetime of lasting memories in the summer of 2016.

Our Farm League All Stars Finish Top 4 in the State!

Way to go, Hartsville National Farm League All Stars!

Our 2016 Farm League All Stars battled hard at the State Tournament.  In the end, they'd won three games and lost 2 (both by 2 runs).  We couldn't be more proud of this group of young players.  Based on their success this season, there's no doubt the future of Hartsville National Baseball is bright.

O-Zone All Stars Claim District Title

Our O-Zone All Stars claimed the District 5 championship and will move on to the state tournament in Sumter.  Despite losing Game One of the best-of-three series to Lee County 3-2, our guys battled back to take Game Two 14-1 and Game Three 16-2.

Offensively, our team success with the longball in the championship series.  The team hit 8 blasts during the 3 games.  Cam Cannarella led the attack with four dingers.  Grayson Wint had 2, including a tribute to Wimbledon in Game 2.  Seth Pittington and Noah Hudson also went deep during the series.

As has been the case from day one for this team, their pitching was outstanding.  Brendan Lee, Seth Pittington, Grayson Wint, Harrison Moore and Cam Cannarella all had good outings against Lee County in the championship series.

In Sub-District and District play, our O-Zone All Stars are 7-1 and have outscored our opponents 121-14.

The opening ceremony for the state tournament will take place on July 15.  Our team's first game will be on July 16 at Patriot Park in Sumter. Our first opponent will be Lancaster.  Game time is 1pm.

Minor League All Stars Fall Short of District Championship

Our Minor League All Stars compiled an overall record of 14-2.  Ultimately, the two losses came at the wrong time. On July 8, a lack of offensive production ended their tournament run prior to making the District Championship Game.  A 3-0 loss in the Fight for 151 against Darlington eliminated our guys from the tournament.

Darlington and Hartsville Northern will compete for the District Championship on Saturday, July 9.

Recap from Thursday's All Star Games (July 7)

O-Zone Update

There's one mother who really didn't want the District 5 O-Zone Championship Game between Hartsville National and Lee County to be played on Thursday:  Mother Nature.  With National leading 3-0 and a 3-1 count on the batter in the second inning, lightning forced the game to go into delay.  Minutes later, the wind and rain came, forcing the game to be postponed to Friday at 6pm.

Cam Cannarella hit his fourth home run of the series to get things started.  The Good Guys were able to add a couple more in the top of the first (National is the visiting team for scoring purposes) before a great inning on defense.  Led by two spectacular plays from Josh Irick, Lee County was held scoreless in the 1st.  The game will pick up from where it was left off.

Minors Update

Mother Nature let our Minor League All Stars get their game in at the Northern League Complex.  It was the battle of the Nationals, as Kershaw County National (from Camden) faced our guys in an elimination game.  Fortunately for us, we came out on top.

Quez Hadley and Nuck Douglas combined for 12 strikeouts and a one-hitter in the 8-2 victory.

Ole Lady Nature wreaked her havoc on the second game of the Minors tournament.  Play between Darlington and Hartsville Northern was suspended in the third inning with Northern leading 6-5.  That game will be completed at 5pm on Friday.  Hartsville National will play the loser of that game at 7pm.

District 5 O-Zone Championship Series Tied 1-1; Rubber Match Set For Thursday

Our O-Zone All Stars played well through their Sub-District; defeating opponents by an overall run total of 79-8 in 5 games.  Game 1 of the District 5 O-Zone Championship Series saw a different outcome.  Our boys traveled to Chapel Park in Bishopville and were only able to scratch out two hits.  Interestingly, both of those scratches were deep cuts; Noah Hudson and Cam Cannarella each hit solo homers.  Those two runs accounted for the team's offensive output in a 3-2 loss.

On Wednesday, George Hatchell of Byerly Park would not deny the two teams the opportunity to play.  George worked tirelessly right up to the 7:30 start time to have the field prepped and ready.  A late afternoon rainstorm nearly forced Game 2 to be postponed.  Thanks for your efforts, George. We literally could not have played without you.

Game 2 saw more fireworks from the National bats (and also some off in the distance from some tardy Fourth celebrants).  Cam Cannarella went deep twice and Grayson Wint added another monster blast as the Good Guys walked away with an 11-2 victory. Seth Pittington and Harrison Moore combined efforts on the mound to force Game 3.

In addition to winning the game, our guys picked up another victory:  the coin toss to host Game 3.

Game 3 will be played at 7pm on Thursday (July 7) at Byerly Park.

Game 2 of the Championship Series will be at Byerly Park on July 6 at 7pm.

Farm League All Stars Finish Second in District 5 Championship Series

Three Games.  Three Walk-Offs.  Amazing.

Hartsville National and Hartsville Northern played three games in two days.  All three games ended in walk offs.  Unfortunately for us, we were the visitors twice.  Over 19 innings of play (one game went 7 innings), these two teams, who are geographically separated by a lake, were separated by one run.  National scored 30.  Northern scored 31.

There is no other word for the 2016 District 5 AA Championship Series than:  Amazing.

Game One:  National 6 Northern 5
Game Two:  Northern 10 National 9 (7 innings)
Game Three:  Northern 16 National 15

Our Farm League All Stars will play next in the State Tournament at Savannah Grove Park in Florence.  The State Tournament begins on July 8.

Congratulations, Hartsville Northern.
