Our Farm League All Stars Advance to the State Tournament

After an impressive showing in the pre-district tournament in Jefferson, expectations were high for our Farm League All Stars.  And they delivered!

After receiving a bye in round one, we topped Kershaw East 10-4 in our opener.  Our second game wouldn't prove to be so easy, but it would prove to be exciting.  Tied 12-12 after 6 innings, the game went to extra-innings.  In the bottom of the 8th, Montell Brown ended the game with a walkoff hit.

Our third game of the tournament saw us take our first defeat, 17-2 against Hartsville Northern.  We bounced back with a big 11-6 victory over Kershaw National to earn a birth in the tournament championship game.

Despite a second loss and runner up finish (this time 14-4 to Hartsville Northern), our Farm Leaguers are State Tournament bound.  Congratulations players, parents and coaches on advancing to play in Clemson later this month.  We're proud of you!

Jefferson Wins the District 5 O-Zone Championship

After a first round loss to Chesterfield, Jefferson fought their way back to win six games and claim the 2015 District 5 championship.  On the 8th day of the tournament, they were faced with having to beat an undefeated Cheraw team twice and they were up for the challenge.

Cheraw's pitching had been dominant all tournament and they saw no real decline in game one on Friday.  However, it was the outstanding pitching of Jefferson's Jamie Parks that stole the show.  Parks pitched a complete game shutout for the 4-0 win.

In the winner-take-all second game, Jefferson's bats, which had put up 33, 22, 18 and 16 in their four wins prior to Friday, came alive.  Parks, game one's star on the mound, launched the game's final pitch into orbit for a 2-run blast.  Jefferson won 14-3 in 5 innings.

Congratulations to Jefferson on winning the tournament championship and advancing to the state tournament in Union.

Also, we'd like to congratulate Cheraw on an outstanding showing in the district tournament.  Prior to the final game, Cheraw's pitchers gave up 9 runs over 5 games.

Hartsville National would like to thank everyone who was involved in the tournament, including our umpires.  The grounds crew at Byerly did a great job preparing the fields, especially during the wet weather we had during the tournament.  The concession stand attendants met every order with a smile.  The scorekeepers and park attendants also helped out tremendously in making this a successful tournament. Is anybody surprised that the umpires were the only ones willing to pose for a picture?

Cheraw and Jefferson to Play for District 5 O-Zone Championship

On Wednesday, Jefferson broke out their hot bats again and cruised to an 18-2 win over Chesterfield.  A Landon Mills homerun in Chesterfield's last bat kept the game from being a shutout and broke a streak of over 50 unanswered runs by Jefferson.

In the nightcap, Cheraw's pitching continued its dominance in the tournament.  Through 5 games, Cheraw's pitching staff has given up a total of five runs.

Jefferson and Cheraw will get underway at 6pm on July 2.  If Jefferson wins, the two teams will play again approximately 30 minutes after the completion of the first game.  If Cheraw wins the first game, we'll break out the sparkling grape juice.

A champion will be crowned on Thursday night (assuming Mother Nature cooperates).  Will it be the booming bats of Jefferson?  Or will it be the awesome arms of Cheraw?  Either way, it'll be a great night of baseball at Byerly Park.
