First Week Recap

After an exciting Opening Day that saw Striker the Cobra, Noah McAteer and Jace Johnson throw out first pitches, Hartsville National's 2016 regular season got underway on March 14.  In the early games, Jiffy Print knocked off MKA 14-2 in Minors, led by the all-around play of Ace Gibson.  In the Farm League opener, F3 knocked off Saleeby & Cox 13-9.  The Ozone battle between Allstate and F3 was suspended due to time with the score tied 3-3.

In the night games, SPC, led by the pitching of Cole Winburn and big bats of Tagan Roscoe and Evan Young, topped Arborworks 12-1.  In Farm League action, Wells Bannister, Mari Hadley and company played stellar defense for Galloway Auto Glass in a 15-0 blanking of Marvin Odom.  There was more exciting action in Ozone, as the Masons nipped the Lions 5-4 in the bottom of the 6th, an inning that saw three close plays at the plate.

On Tuesday, Flowers Welding and Marvin Odom played a tight game defensively.  In the end, Flowers Welding prevailed 3-1.  In the other Farm League game, F3 continued their hot play with a 12-4 win against Galloway Auto Glass.  Avery Fulwood cleared the fence with a monster shot in the first inning.  Marshall Wint and Casey Hawkins led the way for F3 defensively.

Tuesday's Minor League games saw Palmetto Precision top MKA 8-7 and SPC ruin AO Smith's opener 15-1.  In Ozone, the Lions bounced back from their heartbreaking loss on Monday to beat Novolex 12-7 and Allstate handed the Masons their first loss, 5-4.

There were no games on Thursday due to the league's annual BBQ fundraiser.

On Friday, there were two games in Minors and one in Ozone.  In Minors, Arborworks, affectionately known around the league as Adub, got their first "dub" of the season with a 19-2 win over Palmetto Precision.  The Fighting Tree Trimmers were led by the hot hitting of McKendrie Douglas, JC Carraway and Zachary Pulling.  Andrew Dameron pitched a complete game one-hitter for Arborworks.  In the nightcap, Andrews Meadows and Jiffy Print topped AO Smith 20-1.  Nathan Harry and Javion Waiters had great nights at the plate for Jiffy Print.

In Ozone, Coach Tim Jordan's F3 team had their bats clicking in a 22-3 win over Novolex.  In the game, Novolex's Brandon Sellers was injured on a play at first base.  Here's hoping to a speedy recovery for the young star.

Hartsville National action will continue on Monday, March 21, with a full slate of games in all four leagues.
